Thomas G. Schmitzer Sr.
 

 

Background:

Thomas G. Schmitzer, Sr. is a partner in the firm, having practiced with the firm since his graduation from Hamline University School of Law in 1996.  Attorney Schmitzer received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993 and is also a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha.   Attorney Schmitzer has litigated civil and criminal cases in both state and federal courts and has handled appellate matters before the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. 

 

Practice Areas:

Attorney Schmitzer’s practice is concentrated in civil litigation, including personal injury and automobile accidents, insurance coverage disputes and bad faith, and business litigation.  He also handles real estate transactions and development, zoning and land use matters, business and corporate law, as well as estate planning.  Attorney Schmitzer has also been the Prosecuting Attorney for the City of New Berlin since 1998. 

 

Professional Memberships:

Attorney Schmitzer is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin.  He is a member of the Waukesha County Bar Association, including its section on Real Estate. 

 

Volunteer Service:

Attorney Schmitzer is an active member of the community, having served on the Board of Directors of The Caring Place, Inc. and the Friends of the Caring Place, Inc.  He has served as President of each of those organizations.

 

Personal:

Attorney Schmitzer and his wife, Sheilah, are the parents of four children.  He enjoys exercise, fishing, skiing, gardening and music. 

 

 

Notable Representations:

1.         Attorney Schmitzer successfully represented the City of New Berlin in eminent domain litigation in Eaton vs. City of New Berlin, 278 Wis.2d 811, 691 N.W.2d          926 (Ct. App. 2004) (unpublished disposition). 

2.         Will vs. Fortis Insurance Company.  Attorney Schmitzer successfully represented the Plaintiff in an insurance bad faith action involving a pre-existing condition            denial. 

3.         McQuestion vs. Crawford, 765 N.W.2d 822 (Ct. App. 2009).  Attorney Schmitzer represented the Plaintiff landlord with respect to this contested eviction action.
